Can people control dreams?

Dreams often seem so incredible, often with strange combinations or sudden scene changes. Dreams seem to have no laws of cause and effect, and are not limited by time and space. So are there any connections between absurd dreams and real life? If there is a connection, can we influence the content of dreams by controlling the conditions before and after sleep?

The early researchers in this field were Dement and Wolpert from the Kreitman Laboratory of the University of Chicago. Initially, they noticed that most new subjects who had just arrived in the sleep laboratory often incorporated the novel environment of the sleep laboratory into their dream plots when describing their dream story experiences. Apparently, changes in sleep conditions are reflected in dreams. Dement and Wolpert took inspiration from this and designed a series of interesting experiments. The method of the experiment is very simple, which is to change the environmental conditions during sleep of the subjects to see if it will be reflected accordingly in dreams. The whole experiment was divided into three parts, first showering them with cold water, followed by strong light, and then playing music. As a result, only 42% of the subjects' dream reports involved water, 23% talked about light, and 9% mentioned music. These data don't seem to tell the story very well.

Many other scholars have conducted related experiments, and the results have led them to come up with the same number of widely different explanations. However, one thing seems to have become clear, that is, the waking environment encounters some special changes. , new content related to this will be added in the dream. However, the current focus of the problem is how to accurately grasp the inevitable connection between environmental stimulation and dream content. Only by doing this can it be possible to achieve the idea of controlling dreams.

Later, two American scientists, Witkin and Lewis, used methods to stimulate the real environment to measure the content of dreams. The stimuli they used were four movies: one showed a pregnant woman giving birth; one showed primitive tribesmen cutting the foreskin of a male teenager's penis with sharp stones; one showed a female monkey tearing open a dead baby monkey and eating it. ’s story; another one is a bland landscape film.

The results showed that according to the subjects' reports, the contents of the first three films were more integrated into dreams, while the plain scenery films were not at all. The above experiments seem to illustrate the problem that when external stimuli are stronger in real life, those stimuli are more likely to appear in dreams. This statement is agreed by many scholars.

As to the question of whether people can control the content of dreams, the only answer that can be given so far is: it seems that external stimuli before and after falling asleep may be incorporated into dreams. However, when it comes to various physiological mechanisms related to this and its regularity, due to too many changing factors, it is currently difficult to classify them.Standardization. Scholars engaged in research in this field feel that experiments to influence the content of dreams by controlling the conditions before and after falling asleep are very complicated and difficult. Therefore, we first need to have a more accurate method of measuring dream content, and then we can understand the meaning of dreams and ultimately achieve the purpose of controlling dreams.

The above dream interpretations are general interpretations. If you need to know specific matters, you can ask a master to interpret your dreams based on your birth date and the scene when you dreamed:
