Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, Canada. It is located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island in southwest Canada. It is located at 48°25′ north latitude and 123°22′ west longitude. It is the largest city and ice-free port on Vancouver Island. . The city is beautiful and peaceful, known as the "Garden City", with a population of 320,000. It developed rapidly after the Fraser River gold rush in 1858. The city was established in 1862. The provincial capital was moved here in 1868. It is connected to the Pacific Ocean through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There are two deep-water ports: one in the urban area, serving as a commercial port; and one in the western suburbs, serving as the main naval base on the Canadian Pacific coast. The industry is mainly shipbuilding, ship repair, and wood processing. Timber and fish products are the main exports. It has a mild climate, beautiful scenery, many parks in the city and suburbs, and is a base for deep-sea fishing boats and a famous tourist destination. ​

Victoria has light industry, building hardware industry, pottery industry, wood processing industry, yacht manufacturing, food industry, painting and art industry. Tourism is the city's largest revenue-generating industry. Victoria is Canada's closest port to Asia and is a frost-free port. There is a deep-water port in the urban area and the suburbs: the urban deep-water port is a commercial port, divided into internal and external ports, for domestic and overseas trade, and is the main naval base on the Pacific coast. It houses the headquarters of the Canadian Navy's Pacific Fleet and also has an international airport.
